Smiles.

I took this photo last week at a home for street children in Kolkata. It really is great to know that some people can devote their entire lives to give an orphan off the streets a reason to smile.

So Soft

The other day I was looking for things to shoot on our terrace, though since we've been living here for a while I wasn't finding it easy to see anything new to shoot. So I decided to try and see what I could get if i flipped the lens of my SLR, essentially making it a Macro lens.

I hadn't tried this technique in a long time and was worried if I would be able to expose the film right, since reversing the lens makes the light meter go all weird, for some reason. But thankfully I was able to get two photos that were both acceptably sharp, and properly exposed. :)

The Door

It's great what you find hiding away in the back alleys now and then.

I love my Bike.

Last week I spent Saturday at a friends house on the outskirts of the city. I guess I needed a break from all the rush that goes into urban life. I got to sleep in, walk around, and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country.

I think we all need to slow down every now and then.

Don't forget to click the photo to see a bigger image!

Cheers.

Work.

Yup, that's what I've been doing a lot of lately... And this is where most of it's been happening. It's a small part of a... small studio I've been working in the mornings at. Apart from my other job in the afternoon. They do documentaries, short films... I like it. A lot

Oh, and I like the light leak quite a bit. But what do you think?

Bokeh. Again. :P

All right, so we've all seen plenty of it, but I still like to try it out now and then. Now, I took this photo a little while back, on my Olympus OM-10, before it stopped working. In fact, this is the last photo I took before the film jammed in the camera, starting all the problems for it...

Well, the focus was already a bit sketchy, so I figured that at the least I could take photos like this one. Good thing it turned out alright.

It Works!

I am honestly so exited that my home-made camera actually works, I don't know what to say.

Just... Well I wished the developer had a better time scanning them. :)

SLR Trouble

All right. I said I would post some photos taken in film, so here they are. Well, at least one. Notice how the focus point is a bit funny? Well I just found out that the focus of my trusty old SLR is a bit, well... Broken. No, not exactly that, more like:

"Blurry. Always"

Though if you want me to tell you what's actually wrong with it, from a practical point. The focus shifts a little forward than what I see in the viewfinder.

Okay, I can live with that. I just have to compensate for the focus a bit before I release the shutter. If I could release the shutter.

You see what's happening? Things are going down hill. Fast.

I don't even know If there's a place to service the camera in this City. Gonna have to go looking sometime...

Ah well. I still have the DSLR (That hopefully last a while longer...) Oh! I forget to tell you, I built my own pinhole camera a couple days ago! But I'll save that one for my next Post, eh?

Film!

Okay... It's been a while since I last posted here. And I have no excuses, apart from there not being enough time/just haven't been taking as much photos as I once did.

But in that time, I sort of revived my old habit of taking photos with film! I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but I have an Olympus OM10 camera, well... It's more like my fathers old camera, which is actually the one I learned how to use an SLR first with. Since then, I've gotten more used to digital cameras and their flexibility, not to mention how easy it is to see the end results. Anyway, a couple weeks ago I was fishing through my gear, when I found a roll of slide film, that I didn't even know existed before that. This 'discovery' of sorts rekindled my desire to shoot in film again, despite how impractical it might be.

I finished the roll yesterday, and was going to have it developed today, but the studio was closed. So I'll try again tomorrow. Hopefully I haven't lost my touch completely, and at least some of them turn out ok.

Walkers

Me, my brother, and a friend went out for a walk on Saturday, from our house, to the Hawa Mahal in the city (which we didn't photos of, by the way...). This is a photo of him and my friend, walking down M.I road. We walked about ten kilometers, for around three hours. It was tiring, but worth it in the end.

Kite Flying.

This is my brother. Getting ready to do battle with the neighborhood.

So January 14th is the kite festival, here in India and other countries surrounding. It is also the new year according to our calendar. We spent the full day on the roofs, flying kites, eating goodies...

Monkey Business?

All right, I couldn't help myself... But here's my first post of the new year, and also the first post in more than a month. Which I'm not proud of at all. So here's to more regular posting by me.

About the picture? Well, monkey's occasionally come by our house, to see if they can get a bite out of my Mother's veggies. So we have to stand guard for as long as they do. It usually ends up a battle of patience...

But since ours isn't the only house in the neighbourhood, the monkeys usually just get their lunch of our neighbours houses. :)
